The district of Carment de la Frontera stands out for its extreme variations in altitudes, climates, and terrains. At the highest part of the Andes in this region, approximately 3,000 meters above sea level, one can discover moors and cloud forests. The climate up here is so cold that only potatoes and other tubers can thrive.

However, just a two-hour journey north, reaching up to the Ecuador border, the landscape transforms into the Selva Alta, or high jungle. Here, the climate shifts to become more tropical, the vegetation thickens, and agricultural products diversify.

Hailing from the coffee-producing town of Chaupé Alto, Justina Clemente is one of the top producer partners of our exporter in this area. She has dedicated her life to cultivating coffee. Her one-hectare farm is entirely dedicated to coffee production and subsistence crops like bananas and yucca for her family's daily needs. Among shade trees such as Albizia and Pacay, she intersperses Catimor and Typica coffee varieties. Once the processing is complete, she carries the parchment to the nearest road to be transported to the dry mill.

The name of her farm, "La Carretera," originates from its proximity to the main road leading to Carment de la Frontera.
